LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn to Star in Underground Horror Thriller MOLEPEOPLE From Atomic Monster

LaKeith Stanfield (Haunted Mansion) and Ben Mendelsohn (Ready Player One) are heading beneath the streets of New York City for a new horror thriller titled Molepeople, and it sounds like they're going to find something pretty messed up down there.

The film comes from Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount's Primal genre label, with Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman) set to direct from a script by Nathan Elston.

The story follows a man who ventures into the abandoned tunnels beneath New York City, only to discover a twisted society living underground. That's a creepy concept with plenty of potential, especially with Savage directing and two excellent actors leading the film.

Savage, whose latest horror film, Other Mommy, is opening this weekend, has already shown he knows how to make audiences uncomfortable. Watching him explore a hidden civilization beneath one of the busiest cities in the world could make for a fun and disturbing horror experience.

Molepeople was originally developed as an independent film before finding a home at Paramount when J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules launched Primal, the studio's genre-focused label.

Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount will co-finance and co-produce the project, with Paramount handling worldwide distribution. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 27, 2027, with production expected to begin in the UK in late November or early December.

There's something naturally unsettling about the idea of an entire society existing in the forgotten tunnels beneath New York City, and Molepeople has an interesting cast and creative team to bring that nightmare to life.

I'm curious to see what kind of underground horrors Savage has planned for us.
